He is one of the biggest names in shoe business. And today, as Manolo Blahnik unveiled an array of his dazzling heels at a London Fashion Week presentation, it was easy to see why.
An absolute cornucopia of colour, bold, juicy orange was the hue of the day, with black and white shapes, embroidery and stitching providing graphic contrast.
It was the Spanish-born cobbler's first time showing at London Fashion Week, an event he says is more important than ever in the international fashion calendar.

'Everybody now makes a point of coming to London - which is very different to Milan and Paris,' he said in an interview with Vogue. 'London is now so important to all these international buyers. London is the future.' The shoes went on show at the Covent Garden hotel in central London. The designer, who unveiled his first collection in 1971, said today that it had taken him until now to show at Fashion Week because he is 'terrified of crowds'.
Shoe porn: The collection was rich in colour and embellishment; confident and accomplished But, Blahnik, 70, told Vogue, as he unveiled a short film today, he felt he owed it to the organisers to join in. 'I had been invited to take part so many times but it never felt right. London Fashion Week has changed so much recently though; it is so professional now and I really think it is one of the most exciting in the world.
'Also, everything is becoming so transparent with all this technology, with the blogs and tweets, and I wanted to get more in touch with normal people.'
Comfort AND style: The Spanish-born cobbler says comfort is paramount - and it all comes down to the position of the heel. 'One centimetre out either way and the shoe will be a flop,' he has said
