Japanese Media “Spurs” on the Baroque trend
Japan’s Spur magazine’s October issue featured a pretty spread showcasing Dolce&Gabbana’s Baroque inspired FW13 collection.
Spur Magazine is a Japanese glossy which describe itself as “The intellectual fashion magazine”. Aimed at late teens through to women into their 30s, Spur has a strong Japanese imprint, with a slightly more edgy side, less Vogue Nippon more Dazed and Confused.
In a six page spread, stylist Fusae Hamada chose the most iconic looks from the Dolce&Gabbana FW13 collection to illustrate the Baroque fashion.
Photographer Makoto Nakagawa shoots the cloche on a dark olive green background, which further serves to illustrate the 18th century feel. Dark backgrounds became increasingly customary in visual art during the baroque period.
The selection is varied and encompasses the main themes of the collection. The cross stitched lace corset with mating culottes is the lynchpin of the shoot, and the favourite, as it starts off the spread and sets the mood perfectly.
A range of other themse are explored, from the traditional Sicilian, with the caped blouse and lace pencil skirt, to the new fabrics used in the collection, such as the laser cut organza dress with floral applications.
Two show stopping pieces are of course included, the embroidered cape coat which opened the show, and Swide’s personal favourite (and Emma Stone’s) rose needlepoint embroidered lace dress.
